The 2009 American Music Awards is asking the public to cast their votes for this year’s T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Award, the only award which will determine the fans’ top favorite new artist. For the first time this year, fans will also be able to determine who should make up the final four nominees for the award for each of the following genres: pop/rock, country, rap/hip-hop and soul/R&B. They will be given the opportunity to vote from among two names in each category to determine the one artist that will move on to be included as the final nominee from that category.

Fans voted to determine the final nominee in each of the Pop/Rock, Soul/R&B, Country and Rap/Hip-Hop genres.The final nominees now vying for the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Award are:

The nominees were chosen from different genres of music and were the top new artists in each category based on sales and airplay from November 2008 – August 2009.
